Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Qatar will co-host a seminar on ‘ICC Emergency Arbitration Provisions as an Alternative to Qatar Court’ on April 17 at Qatar Chamber’s Doha headquarters.
The event, which will run from 9am to 10:30am and supported by Qatar Chamber, will focus on the key emergency arbitration provisions of the ICC that enable a party to apply for “urgent interim or conservatory measures that cannot await the constitution of an arbitral tribunal.”
Tarek Saad, counsel in Squire Patton Boggs’ Doha Office, will give an overview of Emergency Arbitration Provisions, explaining the process of enforcing emergency awards in Qatar and advising on the practical lessons of a recent case example. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
Saad specialises in assessing, managing, and resolving complex, high-value commercial disputes in Qatar and internationally. He has substantial experience using a wide variety of conflict resolution methods across a broad range of industries, acting for clients in early-stage negotiations and resolutions, proceedings involving emergency injunctive relief, mediations, arbitrations, motions hearings, agency proceedings and court trials.
The managing partner of Squire Patton Boggs’s Doha office and head of the ICC Qatar Arbitration and ADR Commission, Charbel Maakaron, explains the importance of the seminar to businesses in Qatar: “This discussion will be invaluable for everyone seeking to understand how emergency arbitration functions and key concerns such as the enforceability of decisions.”
ICC Qatar is the globally influential national committee of the Paris-based ICC in the state of Qatar, and works to connect businesses of the country to the world, and the world to the businesses of Qatar.
