Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) met with a high-profile delegation from Mali, who is in Doha to attend the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The guests appreciated the humanitarian efforts by Qatar and QRCS over the years. They gave an overview of the humanitarian situation in Mali, as well as the multiple needs of the northern and central parts of the country, particularly during the coming holy month of Ramadan.
“We at QRCS hold a great responsibility for serving humanity everywhere. This is our duty towards the needy in Mali and worldwide”, said Ibrahim Abdullah al-Maliki, Chief Executive Director of QRCS.
“Africa is a main focus for us, as it needs huge interventions to address its humanitarian problems. We work in several African countries, based on real needs and available resources,” he added.
Naglaa al-Haj, Head of Rehabilitation and International Development, revealed plans to establish a regional representation office for QRCS in Bamako, to supervise operations in Mali, Mauritania, Chad, and the Central African Republic.
“We are working closely with Mali Red Cross and Mali’s Ministry of Social Affairs,” she added.
President of the National Assembly of Mali, Issaka Sidibe, welcomed this initiative by QRCS and promised to offer every possible support. “All QRCS leaders are invited to attend the opening ceremony. It is a good opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties, inspired by the good relations between Qatar and Mali,” he stated. -QNA
