The head of the Swedish delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) event, First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parlament Asa Lindestam, held a meeting with HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Doha on Saturday.

Lindestam reconfirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Qatar and Sweden during the courtesy visit and she congratulated Qatar for hosting such an important and extensive IPU meeting, according to a media statement issued by Swedish ambassador Ewa Polano.

The two sides exchanged views on the IPU’s focus on education and the importance of providing good education to refugees. Further, the Swedish First Deputy Speaker emphasised UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, noting that both countries shared a strong interest that was well in line with the Swedish Feminist Foreign Policy.

They also expressed the mutual interest to support Syrian refugees.

"It was a positive meeting where HE Sheikh Mohamed asked Lindestam to convey greetings to his Swedish counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström," the statement added.
