Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, who was on an official visit to Qatar, inaugurated yesterday at LuLu Hypermarket, Al Messila, the first permanent corner of 100% Italian products supplied by Coldiretti Italy.
The main institutional agricultural organisation of farmers in Italy and Europe, Coldiretti is engaged in research and development of new markets for Italian agricultural products identified as 100% made in Italy.
Coldiretti’s overseas export activities are executed by its parent company named Filiera Agricola Italiana and LuLu Hypermarket signed a Memorandum of Understanding with them during last year.
LuLu Hypermarket Qatar director Mohamed Althaf announced on the occasion that LuLu will have dedicated Italian corner with products sourced through Coldiretti in all its hypermarkets across the world, starting from Qatar.
The Italian prime minister and his accompanying delegation were welcomed by Althaf and senior management officials of LuLu.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Italian ambassador Pasquale Salzano, Italian Trade Commissioner to Qatar Giosafat Rigano, and officials from Coldiretti David Granieri (president), Gianluca Lelli, Stefano Albertazzi from Filiera Agricola Italiana and Prof Gian Pietro Callari.
The premier’s visit has further strengthened the trade relations between LuLu Hypermarkets worldwide and Italy, Althaf mentioned while describing the occasion as a “historic day for LuLu and Coldiretti, in starting our partnership for bringing in the most authentic, 100% Italian food products to the consumers in Qatar”.
“Italian food products are known for their fantastic quality, highest safety standards, and wide variety. There is an increasing demand for good quality Italian food products in our region. Since Italy has a diverse geography and every region has its own interesting products, we were finding it hard to get the right sources. It was at this juncture that the Italian Trade Agency Section from the embassy in Qatar, approached us with a proposal to partner with Coldiretti,” Althaf said.
Speaking about the agreement between Coldiretti Italy and LuLu Hypermarket, Prime Minister Conte said: “I believe the agreement will help meet the demand of fast growing Italian quality food products in Qatar”.
“The agro-food export from Italy to Qatar has increased by 4.2% compared to previous year,” he added.
LuLu Hypermarkets have been treasuring long-standing trade relations with Italy and importing a wide range of food and non-food products for more than a decade.
Since 2004, LuLu Hypermarkets have been organising ‘Italian Food Festival’ regularly in co-operation with the Italian embassy and Italian Trade Agency in Qatar.
LuLu Hypermarkets have Export Distribution Centres worldwide including the major state of the art facilities recently opened in the UK, the US and Spain, to cater to the regular requirements of European, British and US brands of products.
