The Qatar Met department has said the unsettled weather conditions will continue over the weekend and the temperature is also expected to rise during this period.
Thursday’s forecast says thundery rain is expected in some inshore as well as offshore areas along with strong winds and high seas offshore.
In a report Wednesday, the Met department said weather charts indicate that the country’s skies will continue to be affected by a state of instability due to the extension of a low-pressure system over the region until Saturday, April 6.
Partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected to continue and there is a chance of scattered rain of variable intensity, which may be thundery at times in some areas, the report states.
The winds are likely to be mainly easterly to northeasterly, ranging in speed from 8-18 knots and reaching a high of 25 knots during thundershowers. This, in turn, will cause high waves of 4-6ft, rising to 10ft with thundery rain.
The temperature is expected to rise during this period by 4-6C, as compared to the previous days, reaching the mid-30s during the day – especially in the southern and central parts of the country.
The Met department has urged people to be careful during thundershowers, which are usually accompanied by sudden strong winds, avoid going to sea and follow latest updates through its social media accounts.
Meanwhile, Thursday's detailed forecast says the wind speed may go up to 25 knots in some offshore areas during thundery rain, with the sea level rising to 8ft.
Also, the forecast for both offshore and inshore areas says cloudy conditions are expected at times and there is a chance of rain in some places, which may become thundery at times.
Doha and other parts of the country experienced some rain Wednesday, too, after thunderstorms were reported from a number of places on Tuesday.
The minimum temperature today is expected to be 20C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, 21C in Doha, Dukhan, Ruwais and Abu Samra, and 24C in Al Khor, while the maximum will range from 26C in Ruwais and Abu Samra to 29C in Doha and Dukhan.
On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was 18C in Sheehaniya, Turayna and Ghuwairiyah, 19C in Wakrah, Al Khor, Mesaieed and other places, and 20C in Doha, Qatar University area, Hamad International Airport area and Abu Hamour, among others.
