The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) participated yesterday in the fourth edition of the Government Procurement and Contracting Conference and Exhibition ‘Moushtarayat 2019’, which will run until April 2 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
Sultan bin Rashid al-Khater, undersecretary of the MoCI, attended the opening of the event, which was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, deputy governor of the Qatar Central Bank and vice chairman of QDB.
The MoCI’s participation in the event falls within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to promote public-private partnerships. The ministry will highlight the initiatives it has undertaken and the investment opportunities it offers to support and enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and encourage Qatari entrepreneurs to establish new companies.
The ministry will outline the public-private partnership (PPP) projects, as well as the most prominent legislations issued to support the private sector and the initiatives launched to support the contribution of SMEs to the development of a diversified and competitive economy in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The ministry will process the inquiries of SME owners, entrepreneurs, and investors, as well as brief participants on its activities and procedures relating to registrations in tenders to be held this year, in addition to measures to register as accredited suppliers to the ministry.
Moushtarayat 2019 is organised by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), in co-operation with the Ministry of Finance and in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The conference and exhibition aims to attract members of the private sector, particularly SMEs to attend and participate in a wide range of public tenders. A key aspect of the conference is to educate the local SMEs about the procedures involved in existing public tenders extended by big buyers, such as larger private sector companies, semi-governmental, and governmental bodies.
The third edition of the expo offered around 2,000 opportunities worth up to QR1.2bn with the participation of 40 exhibitors and 3,140 visitors. The expo featured 107 business meetings, 10 workshops, and five awards.
