United Development Company (UDC), master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan islands, took part in the Earth Hour initiative on Saturday by switching off unnecessary lights from 8.30pm until 9.30pm.
The switch-off covered the Porto Arabia boardwalk, Qanat Quartier and Medina Centrale retail areas and UDC Tower, the company said in a statement.

Earth Hour, the largest climate support initiative of its kind, aims to draw attention to and raise awareness of the risks of climate change by encouraging participants to switch off lights for one hour on the last Saturday of March.
"Participating in Earth Hour comes within UDC’s commitment to its social responsibility towards the local environment, evident from its efforts in integrating sustainable practices into business decisions and by adopting conscious methods in the management and recycling of waste on the Island," the statement noted.
"UDC also adopts policies to ensure the optimal use of energy in all its projects, and organises events that aim to highlight environmental and social initiatives and concerns," it added.
