HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie said that the ministry was working diligently through strategic plans consistent with the National Development Plan to preserve the environment and sustain wildlife in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
This came during the speech of the minister on the occasion of the ministry's participation in an Earth Hour event day.
The event aimed at reminding countries and institutions of the dangers of climate change.
The theme of this year's event is "losing nature", and the minister said that the choice was made to highlight the threats facing humankind.
He stressed that the ministry believes in the importance of co-operation to limit the negative climate impact across the globe, highlighting that this can be done by the implementation of international conventions and treaties in climate change, pollution reduction and conservation of biodiversity.
The minister called on all segments of society to participate in this global event and its aim of preserving Qatar's environment, and to work on its development and sustainability to ensure the sustainable development of the state and the continuation of prosperity for future generations.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs Ahmed Mohamed al-Sada said that the ministry's celebration on this occasion for years comes from being one of the world's leading initiatives to preserve the environment, as well as highlighting climate change and its effects.
He pointed out that participation is also consistent with Qatar's intentions to preserve environmental sustainability in accordance with its National Vision 2030 and the vision of the wise leadership in that regard.
The minister said that the theme of the celebration draws the attention of countries to the importance of biodiversity as well.
He added that the ministry has in its strategy adopted several environmental projects and programmes aimed at protecting, developing and sustaining the environment and preserving biodiversity in Qatar.
