Ooredoo has announced that it is the platinum sponsor of the upcoming camel racing festival taking place at the Al Sheehaniya camel racing track.
The festival – set to take place from March 30 until April 10 – is one of the most popular camel racing events in the Middle East, attracting some 6,000 camels and hundreds of trainers from Qatar and elsewhere in the Gulf.
The event features a range of races run over distances of 4km, 6km and 8km, and the final race is considered the most prestigious with the winner being awarded the sword from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Ooredoo has said in a statement.
Speaking about the event and sponsorship, Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi – director of PR and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo – said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring this prominent event, which is known as a popular fixture on the Gulf region’s camel racing calendar and is an excellent example of a traditional Gulf sport.
“It’s vital we preserve Gulf and Qatari culture, and supporting events that promote this is a huge priority for Ooredoo. We look forward to seeing some excellent racing during the festival, and of course we wish all entrants the best of luck for the main race!”
