Hamad International Airport (HIA) is set to participate in the Passenger Terminal Expo 2019 (PTE), the world’s leading international airport conference and exhibition, taking place in London from March 26 to 28.
PTE, the most highly-regarded airport conference in the world, attracts over 7,000 senior airport, airline, aviation authority, government and related business executives from all over the world to debate current issues, exchange ideas, and forge new business relationships across the airport and aviation industry.
HIA delegates will be giving a series of addresses on airport planning and development, asset management, customer experience, and airport-airline sustainability collaboration.
Commenting on HIA’s contribution to PTE 2019, Badr Mohamed al-Meer, Hamad International Airport chief operating officer said, “We look forward to the Passenger Terminal Expo each year as it gathers the world’s best airport and aviation experts to discuss the many facets of our industries, several of which are rapidly changing and being disrupted. PTE, as a platform for knowledge-sharing and learning from best practices, has a foothold in shaping the future of the aviation sector by tackling the most pressing issues we’re facing today.
“HIA has, in a few short years, become recognised as a leading international airport for its operations, facilities, and passenger experience excellence. Part of what shapes our success is the willingness not only to learn from key players in the industry, but to offer our expertise and viewpoints to contribute to the success of the global airport industry. We are honoured to represent Qatar at PTE this year, and look forward to working with other participants”, he added.
During the first day of the event, Sujata Suri, HIA vice president (Strategy and Development) will chair the panel discussion on customer service and passenger experience, offering insight into how the fast-changing needs of travellers impacts the airport’s business development strategy, strategic investments, and the overall passenger experience.
On March 27, Ioannis Metsovitis, HIA vice president (Operations) along with Alberto Fernandez Lopez, associate director Meinhardt Group, will jointly chair the session on ‘Airport Design, planning and development – Middle East & Asia’.
Ioannis will discuss the next phase of HIA’s expansion plan, which will accommodate nearly double of HIA’s current capacity.
HIA is increasingly being recognised for its five-star passenger experience and operational excellence. Its strategic investments in cutting-edge technology, and consistent trials of new airport technology, has positioned the young airport to make valuable contributions to the industry at large.
The prestigious annual Skytrax World Airport Awards will also take place during this year’s PTE, for which HIA is a candidate for ‘World’s Best Airport 2019’.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards is the most prestigious accolade for the airport industry, voted by customers in the largest annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.
In 2018, Skytrax acknowledged HIA’s efforts in providing best-in-class services, presenting the airport with numerous awards and achievements including its award as the ‘5th Best Airport in the World’.
HIA also renewed its 5-star airport status and was awarded as the ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ title for the fourth year in a row and ‘Best Staff Service in the Middle East’ for the third year in a row.
HIA was also recognised as the 1st best airport in its ability to accommodate 30-40mn passengers annually.
