Qatari German for Medical Devices Company (QGMD) has announced the development of a safety syringe technology and acquisition of an interim patent certificate for safety syringes. 
The success was the culmination of a team effort between the College of Engineering and the Innovation & Intellectual Property Office at Qatar University (QU), and the medical and technical team at QGMD, a press statement noted.
QGMD had previously signed a co-operation agreement with QU to develop safe medical syringe techniques and get a new patent in this vital area. The aim of this agreement is to strengthen co-operation between the two parties and to employ scientific research capabilities in medical product development in order to support the medical industry in Qatar through its development and advancement, the statement noted.
Hamad bin Khamis al-Kubaisi, chairman of QGMD, said: “We are very proud of what we have achieved through the technical and medical team in the company along with the College of Engineering and the Innovation & Intellectual Property Office at QU. We also appreciate the fruitful co-operation with the university in using potential scientific research to develop the medical sector in Qatar, thus achieving sustainable development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.” Professor Dr Mariam al-Maadeed, vice-president for Research & Graduate Studies at QU, said: “This success confirms Qatar University’s efforts to find appropriate solutions to the challenges facing the medical community and expand co-operation between the two sides in the field of scientific research and development in the interests of the national medical industry.” Dr Aiman Erbad, director of Research Planning & Development at QU, added: “This announcement is the result of continued efforts by the team at the College of Engineering and the Innovation & Intellectual Property Office in line with Qatar University’s strategy regarding the transfer of technology to the industrial sector.”
