Bilateral trade between Qatar and New Zealand reached QR300mn in 2018, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said on Thursday.
HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari on Thursday received in Doha, Fletcher Tabutu, New Zealand’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, who is currently visiting the country.
At the meeting, opportunities available and steps needed to enhance bilateral trade were discussed.
The two sides reviewed the bilateral relations between Qatar and New Zealand and discussed aspects of joint cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and industry, and means of enhancing and developing them in light of the ties between the two countries.
Developments in the Qatari economy over the past years were highlighted. The meeting reviewed investment opportunities available in all sectors, the legislation adopted by Qatar and the initiatives it launched to support the private sector.
These, the MoCI said, would increase foreign direct investment (FDI) and attract more New Zealand companies to the Qatari market.
“During the meeting, they discussed mechanisms to support joint investments and stimulate the private sector to establish innovative investment projects in key sectors that would serve the economic trends of both countries,” the MoCI noted.
