Qatar Airways GCEO HE Akbar al-Baker unveiled the airlines’ new Economy Class seat, as well as a newly designed Economy Class onboard experience in Berlin Wednesday.
While most airlines typically only focus on investing on only premium classes, Qatar’s focus on Economy will benefit more international passengers than ever before, given the majority of the world’s passengers travel in this cabin class, and it remains the largest cabin (by size) on each passenger aircraft.
Highlights of the new seat include a new-generation recline technology that enables a passenger to recline the seat 19 degrees, without intruding on the space of the passenger seated behind. The seat cleverly moves forward as it reclines (while still retaining space), maximising comfort for all passengers.
Each seat is fitted with a large 13.3 inch 4K flat-screen TV, with brand new Live TV channels — a first for the airline. Furthermore, the new Economy service 'Quisine' includes more food choices tailored for every region, new tableware, increased portion sizes, and a commitment to significantly reducing single-use plastics.
Qatar Airways will launch the new Economy seat on its Airbus A321neo/LR aircraft, the first of which is due to be delivered to the airline later this year.
In addition to this, GCEO of Qatar Airways exclusively told this correspondent that the Qatari carrier will also introduce a brand new Business Class seat on the new A321neo single-aisle jets “with lots of privacy” — meaning these new Airbus jets will feature 2 entire cabin classes of brand new seating, a significant boost for the overall passenger experience.
