The cabinet’s regular meeting, presided over by HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani Wednesday, praised the outcome of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's official visit to Austria on March 4 and 5.
Giving details of the meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi said that the cabinet affirmed that the relations between Qatar and Austria have entered a new phase of co-operation and understanding for the benefit of both countries and people. This is in light of the fruitful talks held by His Highness the Amir with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, which touched on supporting and promoting bilateral co-operation in various fields and regionally and internationally. The cabinet also said the two memorandums of understanding signed during the visit are an additional dimension to the growing economic ties between the two countries.
Later, the cabinet was briefed on the results of the seventh session of the Qatari-Tunisian Supreme Joint Committee held in Tunis on March 2, chaired by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and the prime minister of the Tunisian government.
The cabinet welcomed the results of the session, affirming the brotherly spirit and mutual desire to develop the relations and the joint vision on regional and international issues. The cabinet also welcomed the agreements and memorandums of understanding that have been signed, giving the relations a new momentum, opens broad prospects for expanding bilateral co-operation for the benefit of the two peoples and to enhance security and stability in the region.
Then, the cabinet discussed the subjects on its agenda:
They first approved the following:
1- A draft agreement cancelling visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and special passports, signed between the governments of Qatar and Haiti.
2- A draft co-operation agreement in technical, scientific, and economic aspects of the agricultural field signed between Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Republic of Moldova's Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.
Secondly, they agreed to provide financial support to the High-level Panel on Digital Co-operation of the UN Secretary-General.
Thirdly, the cabinet reviewed the following subjects and took the appropriate decisions regarding each one of them:
1 - A draft law that amends some provisions of law no. 19 of 2005 regulating the engineering profession.
2 - A report by the Advisory Council on what was achieved from the comprehensive urban plan being implemented by the state, and the vision of the Ministry of Municipality and Kahramaa in that regard.
3 - A report by the Ministry of Transport and Communications on the outcomes of a committee co-ordinating between the bodies operating in Hamad International Airport between April 1 to September 30 of 2018. The committee, formed by Civil Aviation Authority, is charged with facilitating various operations at the airport by co-ordinating with all the bodies working there, in accordance with the adopted laws. It is also charged with providing the necessary requirements to facilitate operations of the airport.
4 - A report by National Committee for Prohibition of Weapons on the 42nd report of the committee for the period between September 1 and December 31.
Fourthly, the cabinet listened to a presentation by HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education on a mechanism that guarantees the encouragement of Qataris to pursue a teaching career, and develops academic curricula. The minister also gave a presentation on Qatar's position in the Global Competitiveness Report.
The cabinet stressed the importance of formulating more plans to further develop the education system and academic curricula.
