His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani arrived in Vienna on Monday for a two-day official visit to Austria.
The Amir and the accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at Vienna International Airport by Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs Karin Kneissl and members of Qatar's embassy in Vienna.
The Amir's visit comes as part of the wise leadership's strategy and the keenness to keep strong and robust communication, co-operation and co-ordination with states. This serves Qatar's economic goals and plans, developmental programmes, its aspirations, and its benefits in various fields, the official Qatar News Agency said.
His Highness the Amir is expected to hold talks with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. During the talks, they will discuss the bilateral relations and ways to boost and develop them in various fields. They will also discuss a number of topics of common interest.
The Austria-Qatar relations are strong, deep and continuously growing. They cover many fields, led by political, economic, sports, culture, and tourism.
Qatar is also an important economic partner to Austria where the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to $250mn in 2015.
Qatar was one of the first Gulf countries that initiated the opening of an embassy in Vienna in 1975, and in the same year a medical office was opened to meet the needs of many Qatari nationals who travel to Austria for treatment. The two countries have exchanged visits by senior officials who contributed to the promotion and revitalisation of bilateral relations.
