A joint high-profile delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) visited Bangladesh to review humanitarian operations and opened newly-built shelters for Rohingya refugees.
QRCS was represented by its secretary-general Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi and head of International Relations Dr Faouzi Oussedik, while KRCS’ delegation was headed by the organisation’s president, Dr Hilal Mussaed al-Sayer.
The delegation went to Camp 14 to hand over the new shelters to some Rohingya families. The ceremony was attended by Kuwait ambassador to Bangladesh Adel Mohamed AH Hayat, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) secretary-general Md. Feroz Salah Uddin, and staff, and QRCS’ representation mission in Bangladesh.
The three partners commended the tripartite humanitarian co-operation in the best interest of the Rohingya refugees, which culminated in this first-of-its-kind project.
Following the handover of the first batch of shelters, the delegation toured the Friendship Village and talked to the beneficiaries about their impression and needs.
The first phase of the project involved building 55 shelters and four public latrines; installing six solar lamp posts; carrying out site development, shelter supports, and passageway clearing; and distributing nonfood items, including cooking fuel, kitchenware, solar lamps, rugs, umbrellas, and seeds.
The QRCS’ delegation also toured the BDRCS primary health care complex, and met some of the patients and doctors. They also visited QRCS’ primary health care centre at Camp 19, which is funded by Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
The visit concluded with a quick tour at QRCS’ clinic at Camp 4. Funded by Qatar Fund for Development, the clinic serves both the Rohingya refugees and the host community.
