College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) is inviting educators, administrators and the public to a special lecture today by Dr Randall Hansen, programme chair of Learning Design and Technology at University of Maryland University College.
The lecture is focused on technology-enabled teaching and learning based on the standards of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The event will be held today from 7.30-8.30pm in Theater 1 of Building 1 at the College’s Duhail campus.
“Today’s students need to be critical thinkers, designers, and analysts. Educator’s roles need to evolve as well. During this session, I will present information, research and examples to enhance and motivate faculty to rethink their current teaching practice and consider transforming it into an approach based on engaging activities using authentic projects that leverage technology to transform the teaching and learning process,” said Dr Hansen.
Dr Hansen’s lecture is part of a larger event the College is holding to offer technology-based professional development opportunities for its faculty.
Tomorrow, Dr Hansen will be the plenary speaker at CNA-Q’s Faculty Development Day entitled EdTechCamp. This will be a full day of learning and growth opportunities to encourage technology in the classroom and leverage the teaching skills of the College’s faculty. Over 300 instructors will take in Dr Hansen’s workshops, as he is joined by his colleague Dr LeAnn Derby.
The day’s agenda focuses on enriched teaching and learning through technology, with specific sessions tailored to the College’s faculties of Business Studies, Engineering Technology and Industrial Trades, Health Sciences, Information Technology, and Language Studies and Academics.
Topics to be covered during the day include: digital imaging, augmented reality, assisted learning tools, and collaborative learning platforms, to name a few.
“As the State’s national technical College, CNA-Q has a mandate to develop technically-competent, industry-ready professionals,” said Samah Gamar, vice president-Academic.
“We are strong believers in the impact technology-enhanced education has in the preparation of graduates for Qatar’s evolving economy. Lusail’s Smart City is a testament to Qatar’s commitment to leveraging the latest information and communications technologies for sustainability and prosperity.
By offering sessions on technology integration in teaching and learning, we are developing our faculty members’ skillsets in areas essential for a technology-enhanced workplace and an increasingly digitised world. At CNA-Q, we believe digital literacy and digital citizenship starts with equipping role models for our learners – by developing the technological skillsets of our faculty.”
