Qatar University (QU) Al Bairaq programme concluded the sixteenth conference on research and innovation (I am a researcher track), by announcing the winning schools under the supervision of experts and specialists from the university.
The conference is part of an effort to encourage young people to innovate, and conduct researches. I am a Researcher track provides students hands-on research experience by working on research projects with Qatar University professors in many disciplines, as well as receiving training to build their research and scientific capacities.
Four schools competed under Al Bairaq programme: Jassim bin Hamad Secondary School for Boys, Zubaida Independent Secondary School for Girls, Um Hakeem Independent Secondary School for Girls and Al Arqam Academy for Girls.
Wadi Al Ghosn group from Al Arqam Academy for Girls won the first place for the best presentation, and Wadi Mani group from Um Hakeem Independent Secondary School for Girls won the second place, and Wadi Abu Samra group from Zubaida Independent Secondary School for Girls secured the third place.
The Director of the Centre for Advanced Materials at Qatar University and Team Leader of Al Bairaq programme Dr Noora Jabor al-Thani, expressed pride in the level of research presented by the students, saying that “I am a Researcher Track”, which is presented for the ninth year in a row, in addition to other tracks provided by Al Bairaq programme has created a new generation, more aware of the importance of scientific research and its effective role in community development.
Dr Noora Jabor al-Thani added that Qatar University has succeeded in creating an innovative learning environment for high school students, and this success can be shared today by what students presented at this research conference.
She noted that Al Bairaq offers a unique experience in innovative learning methods and is always seeking to be a unique platform to involve Qatari youth from secondary school in a stimulating learning environment that encourages them to join future faculties of science and engineering in all their disciplines.
She pointed out that the largest evidence of the success of Al Bairaq programme is the winning of “Cultivating Curiosity 2019” award offered through the competition “Reimagine Education” held in the US.
Al Bairaq is a non-traditional educational programme aimed at supporting Qatar’s commitment to a knowledge-based economy, enriching human capital, and improving competitiveness through innovation.
