QIIB recently honoured Qatar’s football team, which won the 2019 AFC Asian Cup football championship.
The event was held in the presence of QIIB chief executive officer Dr Abdulbasit Ahmad al-Shaibei.
Players Tarek Salman, Khalid Hassan, Abdul Aziz Hatem, Akram Afif, Saad al-Sheeb and Ali Afif were among those honoured.
“It was a significant accomplishment for our champions who won the most important championship in Qatar’s football history, forever carving the name of Qatar in the history of the Asian Football,” QIIB noted.
Welcoming the players, al-Shaibei said: “QIIB is proud of the Asian Cup champions who brought us joy and we are honoured to have some of them as our clients. They proved that willpower, determination, hard work, courage and bravery are the country’s best qualities, which the team carried as a clear message to the world by winning the Asian Cup”.
“By winning the Asian Cup despite the circumstances that accompanied this victory, the team brought joy and pride to every Qatari, who is really passionate about his/her country as well as every resident of Qatar and person who love our country, which is thriving and flourishing under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the first supporter of sports and athletes”.
QIIB, he said, was keen to play its role in corporate social responsibility and support all activities that provided added value to the Qatari community. There is no doubt that our deep belief in supporting sports stems from its importance, great impact and message that transcends the borders and barriers between nations and peoples as it is a message of dialogue, interaction, love and honest and fair competition, al-Shaibei noted.
The ceremony was attended by Jamal Abdullah al-Jamal, QIIB deputy CEO, Ali Hamad al-Mesaifri, head (Human Resources and Administration), Zakaria Jallawi, head (Retail Sector) and a number of other senior executives.
On their part, the “celebrated players thanked QIIB for honouring them and affirmed that their efforts as part of the national team are a duty and one that raises the name of their country high. It is a cherished goal for every player and every citizen.”
Players interacted with QIIB officials and shared with them the experiences they had and challenges they faced during the highly successful AFC Asian Cup.
They also underscored the importance of sports as a catalyst for youth to gain excellence as well as the importance of institutional support in developing sports further in the country, QIIB said.
