The final rehearsal for the Kuwaiti musical show, ‘From 1980s’, was conducted yesterday at Qatar National Convention Centre as part of Qatar’s participation in the Kuwait National and Liberation Day celebrations.
The show will be featured today and tomorrow at the QNCC Al Mayassa Theatre, and is being performed for the first time outside Kuwait. It has been organised by QNCC in co-operation with Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre (JACC) in Kuwait.
The director of the unique musical show, Jassim al-Qamiss, described it as a journey through some of the main programmes, shows, artworks and events presented on Kuwait TV and Radio throughout the 1980s. The show includes around 55 scenes reflecting the popular trends and artistic expressions of that decade, accompanied by a performance by 80 artistes and musicians from the Kuwait Orchestra.
He described the show as an “interesting, audiovisual, nostalgic journey” into the popular history of the period.
“It is the first time for us to present this show outside Kuwait, and we have felt at home in Doha thanks to the excellent reception we got. The show has been well-received by the public as almost all our tickets were sold out in a record time. We enjoy a shared history and tradition in addition to the deep friendly and family relations among the people of both Kuwait and Qatar. It is not just similar dialects and traditions but also a common culture, which has made the show appealing for all,” al-Qamiss said.
He hoped that the show would be staged in other GCC countries, too, as it is part of the common Gulf traditions and culture.
Abdulaziz Mohamed al-Emadi, CEO of QNCC, stressed the importance of the event and the memories it evokes for those who lived in the 1980s. He expects the show to be a highly entertaining one for the entire audience. Besides, he stressed that QNCC has been keen to provide the visitors with all necessary services and means of comfort in order to give them an excellent opportunity to enjoy the occasion.
Qatar is participating in a number of activities as part of the Kuwait National and Liberation Day celebrations, in line with the brotherly relations between the two countries.
