AlBahie Auction House has announced that it is beginning its third year with a line-up of exhibitions, programmes and auctions to complement Doha’s much-anticipated spring arts season culminating in the opening of the National Museum of Qatar.
To celebrate the distinct cultural and artistic traditions from the Middle East and the wider Islamic world, AlBahie will offer a curate collection of historical objects in the Arts of the Islamic World Selling Exhibition opening on March 1 and available for direct purchase until March 31.
The selling exhibition will bring together unique objects, including Mamluk and Safavid Qu’ran folios, an Ottoman Blunderbuss wide-mouth pistol, a Qajar steel and gold inlay shield and helmet, along with ceramics, calligraphic illuminations and Qur’ans, AlBahie Auction House has said in a statement.
In April, AlBahie will offer a “rich and varied” selection of highly collectible rugs and carpets, including several examples of rare tribal Qashqai and Baluch carpets, bringing once again these unique designs to the market along with examples of traditional Tabriz, Isfahan and Qum carpets, the statement noted.
The Rugs and Carpets live auction takes place on April 10.
AlBahie will host the Collector Series programme with special guest speakers Fadel al-Mansoori on March 23. Al-Mansoori recently exhibited his collection of Islamic Arms and Armour in Powder and Damask at the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha. He will present a lecture on why these objects should be revered not only for their function, but also and perhaps more importantly, as works of art.
As always, AlBahie exhibitions, programmes and auctions are free and open to the public. “We invite all collectors, enthusiasts and curiosity seekers to join us this spring,” the statement added.
