Visitors learned about the life and work of Mirza Ghalib, a prominent 19th century Urdu and Persian poet, in a lecture at Qatar National Library.
The event, organised in partnership with Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar, the country’s oldest Urdu literary organisation, marked the 150th anniversary of Ghalib’s death.
Participants recited Ghalib’s famous ghazals and poems at the literary evening, which was part of the Library’s celebration of Qatar-India 2019 Year of Culture.
“The life of Mirza Ghalib is an example of how one should deal with difficulties in life. I have always been a great fan of him, and discussing his achievements with other attendees at the event was really insightful. It is great to see that the Library is organising events for everyone in Qatar,” said participant Mohamed Rezwan.
Fayaz Osman, an admirer of Ghalib, said he was glad to see the Library recognising an important historical personality.
“Mirza Ghalib belonged to the entire region, and his work is now considered an important treasure. I always recite his poems and recount his achievements,” he added.
