The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the opening of a temporary signalised roundabout at Al Waab Intersection.
This includes the following temporary road layout changes: Mehairja Street’s expansion from one lane to two lanes in each direction; a new eastbound connection from Mehairja Street to Al Samriya Street through Al Khufoos and Al Baidaa streets; and, adding a third lane to turn left at Mehairja Intersection for those coming from Muaither.
These temporary layout changes have been designed in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic to facilitate the construction of an interchange that will replace Al Waab Intersection and a new flyover with four lanes in each direction along Al Bustan Street South, Ashghal has said in a statement.
This will be implemented from February 23 and remain in place for a period of 16 months.
Road users travelling east from Muaither to Al Sadd, using Al Waab Street, can use an alternative route via Mehairja and Al Khufoos streets.
The authority will install road signs advising motorists of the traffic shift and has requested all road users to abide by the 50kph speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
