A group of notable mathematicians from around the world recently gathered at Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) for an international workshop, 'Analysis and Geometry in Several Complex Variables III.
The workshop, held at the Texas A&M Engineering Building in Education City, focused on recent results and developments in the analysis and geometry of several complex variables, CR manifolds and closely related areas, such as the theory of over-determined systems of partial differential equations.
The event was the third in a workshop series that started in January 2015, said workshop co-organiser Dr Nordine Mir, professor of mathematics in the Science Programme at Tamuq.
“This workshop series helps in building exposure for the Qatar research enterprise and therefore contributes to the Qatar National Research Strategy,” Dr Mir said. “A workshop of this calibre adds substantial further visibility to Texas A&M at Qatar and to Qatar as the Middle East research hub.”
Dr Mir and co-organiser Dr Shiferaw Berhanu from Temple University (US) said the workshop was designed to foster mutually beneficial collaborations between mathematicians in the region and colleagues in Europe, Brazil and the US and to help promote the exchange of ideas and interactions among these researchers.
“The first and second workshops have been very effective in building international research collaborations,” Dr Mir said. “Since 2015 when the workshops began, there have been several new research projects started and some important papers have been published, and they were initiated here in Doha.”
The workshop was sponsored by Texas A&M at Qatar and Qatar Petrochemical Company.
