HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani on Thursday inaugurated the Teleport Control Station of Qatar Satellite Company (Es'hailSat) in Al Ghuwairiya area, north of Doha.

The ceremony, attended by HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, Es'hailSat chairperson Dr Hessa Sultan al-Jaber and a number of other dignitaries began with the screening of a documentary film about the company, the Qatar News Agency reported.

Es'hailSat CEO Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, in his speech, said the inauguration of the teleport is an important step in the company's plan to provide a safe and independent satellite service to meet all the requirements of its current and future customers.

The launch of the teleport will enable Es'hailSat to provide the best solutions to its customers in the region not only technically but also in terms of security, especially that Es'hail-1 and Es'hail-2 satellites were designed with the latest anti-jamming technology, al-Kuwari said.

The Prime Minister toured the station and was briefed on the advanced equipment and systems that control the operation of the satellites to ensure safe and integrated broadcasting services in accordance with the highest quality standards.

Sheikh Abdullah said the inauguration of the teleport is a new achievement for Qatar which is steadily progressing in carrying out its strategic projects in accordance with its National Vision 2030 and under the sound directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

He also hailed the efforts exerted over the past years, which have so far resulted in Es'hail-1 and Es'hail-2 satellites, the teleport, and the training and qualification of national cadres that have proved their capability and efficiency in this important vital sector.

An area of 50,000sqm has been allocated north of Doha for the new teleport which will provide satellite control services, support communications and control of satellite capacities, in addition to a wide range of services on broadcasting and encryption which are designed specifically for the company's partners and customers.

The teleport is designed according to the latest technologies to provide back-up studios for TV channels and serves as a disaster-recovery facility for broadcasters. It also will connect with key media outlets in Qatar through fibre optic technology.

Es'hailSat will broadcast a variety of major TV channels such as Al Jazeera and beIN as well Qatar Media Corporation's channels.
