Qatar University has chosen HE Sheikha Ahmed al-Mahmoud as the social responsibility personality for 2018, in recognition of her efforts throughout her career to inspire generations through many achievements and initiatives in the education field.

Qatar University has been selecting personalities of the year since 2014. Those selected are honoured at a ceremony in the presence of a high-level committee which monitors the achievements of inspiring personalities that exhibit exceptional degrees of leadership on issues that fall under the concept of social responsibility. A number of leading institutions in this field are also honoured.

The ceremony also marks the launch of the annual Social Responsibility Report, which is issued in partnership with the Qatar Corporate Social Responsibility Network, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (distribution partner to the embassies of Qatar worldwide,) the media partnership with Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) and the Qatar Post (distribution partner within Qatar,) with the contribution of ministers, ambassadors and leading personalities, along with other sponsoring institutions.

Qatar University's President Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham said that choosing HE Sheikha Ahmed al-Mahmoud, who is the first minister of education on both Qatar and the Gulf levels, as the social responsibility personality for 2018 symbolises appreciation for her important role in the qualitative development of the awareness of society and their view of education and the involvement of all society groups in education.

Al-Derham said that HE al-Mahmoud has supported the development of the community culture that became aware of the educational dimension, adding that she understands the requirements of quality education and family rights in securing the best educational opportunities.

Meanwhile, HE al-Mahmoud said that national responsibility has always been on the school system to lead the modernisation process. The contractor, director, educational and management teams are partners in the social responsibility of education, which requires competition in educational fields such as curricula, teaching methods and use of media, as well as technology, develop the capacities of children and build their personalities in the right manner that qualifies them to deal with the future with moderation, confidence, competence and to increase the teacher' professionalism and to achieve quality in education.

Qatar University has expressed its pride that selecting the personality of the year this time was related to volunteering, and as a simulation of voluntary work of global standards in preparation for the 2022 World Cup, in addition to the allocation of a dossier titled '21st Century Initiative for Qatar 2022: Qatar's mission to promote peace through sport'.
