Ibn Ajayan Projects (IAP) celebrated Qatar National Sport Day by holding a series of sports activities at Asian Town to highlight the importance of leading active and healthy lifestyles. Thousands of people from different expatriate communities participated in the events led by senior officials on behalf of the organising company, IAP said in a statement.
The activities started with a basketball tournament and was followed by volleyball tournaments for both men and women, football, tug-of-war, Sepak takraw and a variety of fun games.
A free medical camp was also organised by the Indian Cultural Centre, in association with Aster Medical Centre, while a blood donation camp was held in association with the Hamad Medical Corporation blood donor centre.
IAP chairman Mohamed bin Mahdi bin Ajayan al-Ahbabi used the occasion to express his thanks and appreciation for all those who have helped build the country. He said, “Asian Town’s participation in the National Sport Day is an important testament to Ibn Ajayan Projects’ commitment to Asian Town visitors, occupants of the workers’ accommodation and other local communities.”
Nilangshu Dey, president of the Indian Sports Centre, visited and participated in the sports activities organised at Asian Town. The tug-of-war competition was won by Team Tirur, with the first runners-up award going to Team Doha Warriors and second runners-up to Team QISF. Team JCT won the Sepak takraw tournament, while Team Surigad were the first runners-up and Team Philippines second runners-up.
The basketball tournament was won by Team Honeywell, with the first runners-up slot being bagged by Team Lakay and second runners-up by Team Unicorp.
The men’s volleyball tournament was won by Aktor Company Team, with the Safa Water Team finishing as the runners-up. Team Ballcoholics were the champions in the women’s volleyball tournament, with the Sweet 14 Team becoming the runners-up. The football tournament was won by Team Outlook, while the IAP Team were the runners-up. Winners of the sports tournaments and competitions were awarded trophies and medals at a prize distribution ceremony .
