CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC Nasser al-Khater has said that the newly-established joint venture will help in increasing efficiency in the operational aspects for the tournament.
On February 5 in Doha, the joint venture was unveiled as the body responsible for delivering the first FIFA World Cup in the Arab world after the management board met for the first time The new delivery model will capitalise on the planning expertise the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has built up since winning the right to host the tournament in 2010. Combined with FIFA’s extensive tournament expertise, this innovative model of delivering world football’s premier event aims to ensure an optimum World Cup experience for fans, players and officials in 2022.
While the joint venture focuses on tournament delivery, the SC will continue to manage the development of event infrastructure, along with the various legacy programmes. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC will be responsible for the teams, officials, housing, transportation, and organisation, he pointed out. 
Al-Khater, who is also the SC’s Chief of Tournament Readiness & Experience Group, revealed that the new partnership was reached after two years of discussions as both parties discussed the best mechanism to be adopted in order to organise an ideal tournament.
“Since Gianni Infantino took over the presidency of FIFA, the need for greater harmony between FIFA and the organising committee was stressed. In the new model, FIFA will be responsible for the organisation of the upcoming tournaments, especially as it will make the management of the tournaments easier, and increases the expertise of each party,” he explained.
Al-Khater revealed that SC has 41 training grounds for the participating teams of the 2022 World Cup. He said that the Wakrah Stadium will be inaugurated in May on the sidelines of the final of the HH the Amir Cup, which is scheduled for May 16. The third stadium to be inaugurated will be Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor City, scheduled for completion by the end of 2019. 
On increasing the number of World Cup teams to 48, instead of 32, CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC said: “The feasibility study for such a proposal is still underway by the FIFA, which is supposed to report on the matter before next March. The number of teams will not be determined categorically until next June, but so far the plan is that the number of teams 32,” al-Khater said.
The venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup fan zones has been identified and is currently being studied BY SC with FIFA. Al-Khater predicted that around one million fans will visit Qatar for the historic tournament with 175,000 rooms required to house them. He confirmed that SC has benefited greatly from the last year’s World Cup in Russia, where the delegates from SC and Qatar Football Association gained first-hand experience about the organisation. He revealed that SC will also send delegates to the Copa America tournament in Brazil in June.
