A Philippine police officer on Monday filed criminal
complaints against a Chinese woman who threw a soft tofu drink at him
during an argument at an overhead train station in the capital.
Police officer William Cristobal accused the suspect, Jiale Zhang, a
23-year-old fashion design student, of direct assault, disobedience
to an agent of a person in authority, and unjust vexation.
Zhang was arrested on Saturday after she threw the tofu drink,
locally called taho, at Cristobal who stopped her from entering the
platform of the overhead train station in the Manila suburban city of
Mandaluyong.
Cristobal said he prevented Zhang from entering the platform because
she had not yet consumed the tofu drink, which was not allowed to be
brought in.
The incident has gone viral and triggered calls for Zhang's
deportation.
Security has been stepped up in Manila's overhead commuter train
stations after officials received a bomb threat last month.
Authorities banned the bringing of all liquids onto platforms.
A photograph widely circulated on social media that shows the Chinese woman Jiale Zhang and the police officer William Cristobal with the thrown soft drink flowing down his shirt.
