Ooredoo has announced that it will release an update of the Ooredoo app in preparation for the upcoming National Sport Day, when customers will be rewarded for every step they take.

The new update will include a new Sport Day section that will enable customers to be rewarded for being active with the Ooredoo promotions. "The more you move, the more you will be rewarded; reach 10,000 steps and not only will you get your free data, you’ll also have reached your daily steps goal as per the global standard for a healthy, active day," the company said in a statement.

This year, Ooredoo’s focus will be on engaging customers and encouraging them to either begin exercising or up their current levels of activity. The day itself offers a host of exciting activities but as an added incentive, Ooredoo will offer two special promotional activities for National Sport Day - 200MB data free, valid until midnight, for every 2019 steps taken for a total of 1GB when a target of 10,000 steps is reached; and 500MB free data, valid until midnight, when customers visit Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park, find the QR code and scan it.

All customers will need to do is allow the Ooredoo app to access their steps monitor and associate a number to their device, to which the company will credit the data. "If you’re an Unlimited customer, then you can gift your data to any Ooredoo Shahry/Hala customer for them to enjoy," the statement notes/

A wide range of sports activities will be on offer at MIA Park, with options suitable for all ages – everything from inflatables for kids to zumba, boxing, taekwondo and ball sports, as well as a variety of fun races - so that the whole family can get involved. There will also be plenty of food and beverage stalls offering healthy options.

Speaking about the app update, Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi, director of PR and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo, said: “Supporting community initiatives that encourage our citizens and residents to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles is of the utmost importance to Ooredoo. Qatar National Sport Day is the ideal opportunity for everyone to come together and explore new ways to stay fit and active, and we’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile event.”

The Ooredoo app is available to download on the Apple Store and Google Play.
