The Qatar Met department has said a rainy spell is expected in the country from Saturday evening, marked by light to moderate showers which may turn heavy and thundery at times — especially on Monday and Tuesday.

This will be accompanied by strong winds, dust and low visibility, and there is a forecast for windy conditions and high seas in offshore areas, according to the weather office.

The Met department has urged people to be cautious and avoid going to sea during this period in view of the expected conditions.

In a report on Thursday, the Met department said “unsettled weather conditions” are expected to affect the country from Saturday evening until Tuesday evening “due to the passage of an upper-level low-pressure system”.

“Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favourable for scattered rain inshore and offshore, which may become thundery at times in some areas,” the report said.

This will be accompanied by strong winds, which will result in rising dust and low visibility.

The rainfall is expected to range from light to moderate in intensity, and may also be heavy at times – especially on Monday and Tuesday, the Met department has said.

The winds will be mostly southeasterly to northeasterly, with the speed ranging from five knots to 15 knots and going up to 25 knots during thundery rain.

This, in turn, will also cause the wave height to exceed 7ft.

The temperature during this period is likely to range between 20C and 205C during the day and between 16C and 20C at night.

The Met department has advised people to follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.

Meanwhile, Friday’s forecast says poor visibility is expected in some offshore areas in the early hours of the day.

Misty to foggy conditions will prevail in these areas at first, followed by scattered clouds later.

Inshore, too, it will be misty in some places at first, followed by mild daytime conditions and some clouds.

It will be relatively cold by night.

The minimum temperature is expected to be 10C in Dukhan and Abu Samra today, 12C in Al Khor, Wakrah and Mesaieed, 15C in Ruwais and 16C in Doha.

The maximum will range from 22C to 24C in various places, with Doha expected to see a high of 23C.

Thursday, the minimum temperature was 9C in Ghuwairiyah and Jumayliyah, followed by 10C in Al Khor, Dukhan and Turayna, while Doha saw a minimum of 15C. The maximum ranged from 20C to 24C around the country, with Doha recording 23C.
