The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced yesterday a project to train teachers and leaders of private schools, its definition, objectives, beneficiary groups and expected results.
Assistant Undersecretary for private education at the ministry Omar Abdulaziz al-Neama said during a press conference yesterday that the ministry’s initiative towards private schools emphasises the importance of professional development of teachers as the basis for the success of any school.
He noted that the training policy aims to improve quality in the private education sector, because it is a strategic partner in the educational process, and stressed the importance of the professional development of the private school workers.
Director of the training centre at the ministry, Hessa al-Aali, said that the project was a strategic one for the ministry. She added that the centre will oversee the project.
Head of training at the centre Aliaa al-Basti said that the training policy focuses on achieving a set of principles, including efficiency, quality and the provision of programmes related to the national professional standards for teachers and leaders of private schools.
She said that the programme will take place over 2018-2022.
The number of teachers benefiting from the training at this stage is estimated at 180 from international and community schools and institutions that adopt the national curriculum standards of Qatar in all subjects.
