Celebrations were held on Friday at College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) in honour of Team Al-Annabi’s achievement of winning the Asian Cup for the first time ever.
The main administration building was packed with students and staff showing their national pride, praising the football team for its victorious 3-1 win over Japan.
The crowd, waving Qatari flags, enjoyed a video compilation of highlights from Friday’s game, a cake cutting and then gathered to sign a celebratory banner in honour of the winning team. Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa, president of CNA-Q was the first to sign the banner with his congratulations.
“This is a truly historic moment for our glorious nation and in honour of our great leader, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al- Thani. We are extremely proud of Qatar winning the Asian Cup for the first time, and making all of us very proud,” said Dr al-Khalifa.
Yesterday’s event was a continuation of Friday night’s celebrations when the college opened its doors for a pubic live-streaming of the match on the auditorium’s state-of-the-art big screen.
The big win comes at a time when the college has recently invested in its sport and wellness facilities, including an upgrade of the football field turf.
“Building on this success of Qatar, we are putting more resources into sport activities for our student body, to prepare the next generation of leaders to be fit, strong and successful,” added Dr al-Khalifa.
