The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced on Saturday that Amman will host next week a new meeting between representatives of the Yemeni government and the Houthis to follow up the discussion of the terms of the prisoner exchange agreement.
Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Spokesperson Sufian Al Qudah said in a statement reported by Jordan News Agency (Petra) that Jordan has agreed to a new request from the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen for a meeting in Amman next week between representatives of the Yemeni Government and Ansar Allah to follow up the discussion on the terms of the prisoner exchange agreement.
The statement added that Jordan's agreement to hold the meeting in Amman comes within the framework of its support for the efforts to end the Yemeni crisis and the efforts of the Special Envoy to reach a political solution to it according to the approved references.
In January, a technical meeting was held in Amman between the parties to the Yemeni crisis on the prisoners exchange agreement reached at peace talks held under the auspices of the United Nations in Sweden last December.
Last year, the Yemeni government and the Houthis reached a ceasefire agreement in the western coastal province of Al Hudaydah and the withdrawal of forces from both sides, followed by the UN Security Council's approval of the deployment of up to 75 observers in Al Hudaydah to monitor the truce. But so far, the agreement has not been implemented. (QNA)
