His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday met with Emperor Akihito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. 
His Highness the Amir was in Japan on a two-day state visit. During the meeting, they reviewed close relations between the two friendly countries as well as a number of issues of mutual interest. His Highness the Amir met with Crown Prince of Japan Naruhito at his residence in Tokyo. During the meeting, they discussed relations of friendship and co-operation between the two countries and means of developing them. 
His Highness the Amir met at his residence in Tokyo Japan-Qatar Friendship Association president Toshio Mita and members. They reviewed aspects of development of friendship and co-operation between Qatar and Japan in various fields. His Highness the Amir also met Toshihiro Nikai, president of the Japanese Parliamentary Association for Friendship with the State of Qatar. 
They reviewed relations of co-operation between Qatar and Japan and ways to strengthen them. Both meetings were attended by members of the official delegation accompanying His Highness the Amir.
Later in the day, His Highness the Amir left Tokyo, heading to China, the last stop of his three-nation tour, which began in South Korea on Sunday. Sheikh Tamim was seen off upon departure from Tokyo International Airport by Japanese Parliamentary Association for Friendship with the State of Qatar secretary-general Tadahiko Ito, Qatar’s ambassador to Japan Hassan bin Mohamed Rafei al-Emadi, Japan’s ambassador to Qatar Seiichi Otsuka, and members of the Qatari embassy in Tokyo. 
His Highness the Amir sent a message to Emperor Akihito and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe thanking them for the warm welcome during the visit, which provided an opportunity to exchange views with high-ranking Japanese officials on a number of topics of joint interest that will contribute to enhance partnership and co-operation ties between the two countries. 
His Highness the Amir also wished the emperor and the prime minister the best of health and happiness, and further progress and prosperity to the people of Japan.
