Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) president and World Athletics Championship Doha 2019 organising committee chairman HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani made an inspection visit to Khalifa International Stadium, the venue of the tournament, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East.
HE Sheikh Joaan was accompanied by HE Vice President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Dahlan al-Hamad, who is also the vice chairman of the World Athletics Championship Doha 2019 organising committee, and QOC secretary-general Jassim al-Buainain.
HE Sheikh Joaan inspected the facilities of the stadium, which will witness the use of cooling technology during the tournament keeping the temperature in the stadium between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.
The cooling system allows for temperatures to be controlled, as well as humidity in a sophisticated environment-friendly technology in the stadium to ensure a comfortable atmosphere for the athletes as well as for the public.
For the first time, all morning competitions will be migrated to evening and afternoon with an hour-long rest between the events. The marathon will be held in the evening through the Doha Corniche and around Al Dafna area, with the entire race course lit up.
On the other hand, the Organizing Committee will conduct a final rehearsal of the ongoing equipment and preparations through hosting Asian Athletics Championship slated for April in Doha.
