HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari attended the opening session of the 49th edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF), yesterday in Davos, Switzerland.
He is participating in a number of sessions organised within the framework of the WEF. On the sidelines of the forum HE al-Kuwari will hold meetings with ministers and senior government officials from participating countries, in addition to representatives of international organisations and private sector institutions. 
About 65 heads of state and leaders of 40 international organisations along with business executives, politicians, ministers, academics, technology pioneers, representatives of civil society organisations, and intellectuals are participating in the four-day forum.
This year’s edition of the WEF, titled “Globalisation 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution” features 350 sessions and seminars to discuss a number of key topics including geopolitics in a multipolar world, the future of the economy, industry systems and technology policy, risk resilience to promote systems thinking to radically improve the collective and integrated management of the key environmental systems, development of human capital and society and global institutional reform.
The WEF, founded in 1971, is an independent international non-profit organisation with a mission to promote global development.
Each year, the WEF brings together a large number of heads of state and government, senior officials and influential businessmen in the global economy. The annual meeting aims to provide a platform for dialogue and the exchange of ideas among participants, presenting opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between various countries and international companies.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry met yesterday with his Omani counterpart Ali bin Masoud al-Sunaidy, on the sidelines of the WEF.
