The Central Municipal Council (CMC) yesterday recommended that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) review and evaluate the number of parking lots in commercial complexes to make sure that these are compliant with the numbers specified in the licence and building completion certificates.
At its regular session yesterday, the council also suggested that the owners of violating commercial complexes be made to provide the actual number of parking lots as stipulated in the original licence.
Such recommendations are meant to ensure safe and smooth traffic circulation in and around such vital locations, especially as consumer complaints of shortage of parking space at key commercial complexes have been on the rise.
Accordingly, the CMC has recognised the need to address this issue in an adequate and practical way while enforcing the relevant rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, the council reviewed the MME’s response to its previous recommendations on various issues, including the regulation of traffic circulation in front of shops, restaurants and cafes, safety and security standards at public parks and gardens, and specifications of imported goods.
The council took the responses into consideration and would follow up on the implementation of necessary measures by the entities concerned.
The CMC meetings discuss various municipal issues and services and the members make recommendations to the entities concerned to improve such services or introduce new ones.
