*Amount to be spent on direct relief programmes in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has given directions to allocate $50mn to support the Syrian refugees and displaced persons who suffer tough humanitarian conditions as a result of displacement and the cold winter weather.

Qatar extends this grant in the form of an urgent relief aid package and a group of development programmes, through Qatar Fund for Development, to the Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, in addition to the displaced within Syria.

The grant will be distributed as follows: $20mn to support the displaced within Syria, $10mn for programmes supporting refugees in each Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon, adding up to a total of $30mn in the three countries.

From the grant allocated for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, $5mn will be given to support the relief campaign in Arsal, which is supervised by Qatar Charity.

Qatar Fund for Development, in co-ordination with its partners such as the White Helmets and related United Nations agencies, will be responsible for spending these amounts in direct humanitarian relief programmes to alleviate the effects of the severe winter, in addition to development programmes in the education and health service fields.
