His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Iraqi President Dr Barham Salih held official talks at the Amiri Diwan on Thursday.

At the outset of the session, the Amir welcomed the Iraqi president and his delegation, stressing that Salih's visit would contribute to cementing the fraternal relations between the two countries.

Salih lauded the relations, and expressed his desire to develop them.

During the talks, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and means of boosting them in various fields to achieve common interests especially in the areas of economy, trade, investment, infrastructure, tourism and reconstruction of Iraq.

The two leaders also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

At the end of the session, the Iraqi president extended an invitation to the Amir to visit Iraq.

The Amir welcomed the invitation.

The talks were attended several ministers and members of the delegation accompanying the Iraqi leader.

Later, the Amir hosted a luncheon banquet in honor of the Iraqi president.

Earlier Salih was accorded an official reception ceremony at the Amiri Diwan.

The Iraqi president later left Doha.

He was seen off at Hamad International Airport by HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, acting charge d'affaires of the Qatari embassy in Iraq Hussein Ali al-Fadala and the acting charge d'affaires of the Iraqi embassy in Qatar Dr Abdulsattar al-Janabi.
