The Assistive Technology Centre (Mada) of the Ministry of Transport and Communications has granted its e-accessibility certification to the website of the Public Prosecution for applying the web content accessibility standards for persons with disabilities, elderly and those with functional limitations.
The certificate is awarded to websites that provide digital access to content and e-services, in addition to meeting the requirements and guideline for web content access.
Chief Executive at Mada, Maha al-Mansouri, said that access to information is a right for all and that the certificate given to the Public Prosecution’s website is an addition to Qatar’s digital access achievements, making it the seventh government site to be accredited according to international standards of e-accessibility.
Through its partnerships with various institutions in Qatar, Mada Centre is making every effort to provide evaluation, consultation and training services to various governmental and non-governmental entities to ensure e-accessibility for all and to empower people with disabilities, elderly and those with functional limitations and ensure their rights to e-accessibility under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Maha al-Mansouri said.
She also said that the centre continues to co-operate with various entities to increase Qatar’s e-accessibility rate, especially as it ranked fifth globally in 2018, and aspires to upgrade further in 2019.
For her part, Director of the Information Systems Department at the Public Prosecution, Maryam Hajji, said that receiving e-accessibility certification is the result of an effective partnership between the Public Prosecution and Mada.
She noted the centre’s efforts in providing consultation and training services to specialists in the information systems department, which contributed to the achievement of the goals set by the Public Prosecution in its strategic plan to enable the various groups in the society to access the digital and service content provided by the Public Prosecution through effective use of ICTs.
She added that the accreditation obtained by the website of the Public Prosecutor from Mada Centre is in line with the Prosecutor’s vision and mission to provide a modern judicial system that meets the aspirations of the people. She noted that the Public Prosecution is continuously seeking to develop the services it provides to the community and taking into consideration the requirements of persons with disabilities.
The Mada Assistive Technology Centre has launched the “e-accessibility” programme, in compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Qatar was one of the first countries to ratify.
