Al Ahli Hospital, in co-operation with Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Blood Donor Unit, held a blood donation drive yesterday, from 8.30am to 2pm.
The initiative was part of Al Ahli Hospital’s commitment to the Qatar community and in line with its corporate social responsibility, according to a statement.
Khalid al-Emadi, CEO of the Medicare Group, said: “We hope to raise awareness and educate our huests and staff through this initiative on the numerous benefits of donating blood.”
“The blood donation drive is a testament to our commitment to Qatar’s communities and individuals,” said Jamal Saleh Hammad, deputy CEO and director of projects at Al Ahli Hospital.
Dr Abdul Azim Abdul Wahab, chief of medical staff at Al Ahli Hospital explained that each component of the donated blood can be used by different recipients for various purposes.
“In order to donate blood the donor must be in good health and submit to some simple health checks. These are performed totally free of cost. This is of great benefit to donors as it may detect issues at the early stage and allow early diagnosis and treatment.
“Further, donated blood and its derivatives are screened for certain infections. You can choose to be informed if they find any abnormality during the screening process. Frequent blood donations are good free health check-ups that will help you stay healthy,” Dr Abdul Azim added.
