The Operations Department of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security carried out today the exercise ‘Dibel 2’ in order to measure the readiness of the authorities concerned to deal with accidents at the sea, as well as to improve the co-ordination, training and efficiency of the participating parties.
The scenario was an operation to contain a fire and oil spill due to explosion of a maritime vessel (Dibel).A rescue operation for the injured vessel crew was also part of the exercise.
The drill was conducted with the co-operation of a number of bodies such as Amiri Air Force, General Directorate of Industrial Security, and Qatar Petroleum, which helped the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security in this mission.
Director General of the General Directorate of Industrial Security, Lt Col Khalifa Mohamed al-Attiyah, said that the Dibel 2 exercise was a continuation of the joint efforts between the Directorates of the Industrial Security and the Coasts and Borders Security and other parties concerned.
For his part, Assistant Director General of Coasts and Borders Security Lt Col Abdulaziz Ali al-Mohannadi affirmed the success of the Dibel 2 exercise in achieving its objectives by training the participating entities to confront various accidents and maritime tasks.
He pointed out that the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security is always ready to confront the various incidents occurring in the maritime field, whether accidents of commercial vessels and oil tankers, or confronting fishing and smuggling in Qatari waters.
Assistant Director of Operations Department of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, Captain Hassan Ahmed al-Sulaiti, who supervised the exercise, said the department implemented the exercise in co-operation with Qatar Amiri Air Force, General Directorate of Industrial Security, and Qatar Petroleum. - QNA
