The third edition of Qatar Today Business Excellence Awards was recently organised at Doha Marriott that brought together Qatar’s top businesspersons to celebrate Qatar’s resilient economy and to honour the companies that continue to thrive.
The excellence awards are seen a major drive behind the sustainable growth of different businesses and companies. The recognition given to the companies selected through a due process is a confidence booster for the business in Qatar.
Masraf Al Rayan clinched the award for the top-performing company listed on Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) for its performance in 2017 in providing unbeatable value to its shareholders. The other award recipients include Barwa Real Estate, Award for consumer services; Widam Food Company, consumer services; Qatar International Islamic Bank, for financial services; Doha Bank, financial services; Qatar Islamic Insurance Co, financial services; Al Meera Consumer Goods, consumer services; Medicare Group, healthcare; United Development Company, industrial services; and Qatar Fuel (Woqod), utilities.
There were special awards that recognised the achievements of the private sector as well, which operates outside the financial markets. Ahmed Hussein al-Khalaf was honoured with the Outstanding National Contributor Award for his contributions to shaping not only his company’s policies but also the food security of Qatar. Qatar Today also honoured other prominent companies and individuals who made the nation proud by excelling in their fields and aligning their corporate goals to the National Vision 2030. The other special awards recipients, include Tawar Mall, Award for Shopping Mall Of The Year; Toyota, Automotive of The Year; and  Oravi International, Marketing Agency of The Year.
Qatar Today Business Excellence Awards paid special attention to the investor’s perspective, looking at the performance of the company over the last three years.
The awards were presented to the representatives of the winning companies by Hussain al-Abdullah, Director of Marketing QSE, on behalf of Rashid Ali al-Mansoori, CEO of QSC. Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion and also unveiled the special June issue of Qatar Today and Qatar Al Youm. Yousuf Jassem al-Darwish, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief at Oryx Publishing & Advertising Co WLL, welcomed the gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, Hussain said, “We are thankful to the organisers for the awards. We are mindful of their important role. In order to support the economy of Qatar, we continue providing information about the leading companies and giving the investors opportunities to benefit from their continuous growth. QSE supports all initiatives and encourages the registered companies to raise the level of their performance and transparency in order to help the investors formulate educated investment decisions.
“QSE in recent years has invested significant resources in encouraging companies to communicate transparency for all investors and market participants for improving the perception and understanding of the Qatari companies in the world. I hope the awards will increase competitiveness for more excellence in business and services.” 
Speaking on the occasion, Saumya Krishna, Director Financial Advisory Services at Deloitte in Qatar, said, “The ranking methodology adopted by Qatar Today is broadly aligned with the global best practices such as the financial performance of all the companies listed on the QSE are observed for all of the selected financial ratios, over the last three years (2015 to 2017). The underlying financial data has been obtained from Capital IQ database, one of the stock market data vendors operating under Standard & Poor’s (S&P Global) and QSE.”
Ezdhar Ibrahim, Managing Editor of Oryx Publishing and Advertising, said, “It has become more important than ever to celebrate the success of companies that have proved their mettle in the current economic climate. These top companies serve as an inspiration for Qatar’s business community.”
