The ambassador of Gambia to Qatar, Foday Mulang, said that celebrating the National Day on December 18 each year affirms the keenness of Qatar and its people to commemorate the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, who, during his reign, managed to unite the tribes and establish the state. 
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, the ambassador said that such celebration renewed sovereignty, national pride, dignity and a common purpose for the peoples. 
“On behalf of the Gambia president and the Gambian community in Qatar, I would like to extend our profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to the government and peoples of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day. We pray for Allah’s continued protection, guidance and blessings on the people of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani,” he said 
The envoy praised the bilateral relations between the governments of Gambia and Qatar, describing the financial and material support of Qatar to his country as exceptional, adding, “We want to assure the government and the peoples of Qatar of our commitment to further strengthen and increase the scope of the bilateral ties that happily exist for the benefit of both brotherly nations in years to come.”
The ambassador appreciated Qatar’s achievements and national will of the peoples of Qatar, which is based on the evidence that Qatar has undergone significant transformation in terms of its domestic and foreign policy. Since the launch of Qatar National Vision 2030 by His Highness the Amir, ushering in a more modernised way of thinking, opening new horizons and defined the features of the society that the government and peoples of Qatar aspire to establish, a roadmap that is being gradually followed with unmistakable clarity and unity of purpose, he said.
“It is important to note that the strides being taken by Qatar to empower the citizenry and expatriate community in the socio-economic development and other all spheres, has remarkably yielded a largely unprecedented pace of development, modernisation, security and peace for the inhabitants which among other things has resulted in propelling Qatar into a position of a modernising regional and world peace haven with a high sense of security in addition to being an economic giant, as records continue to indicate that Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of the GDP.” 
The ambassador said that the foreign policy objective of Qatar based on the principles of consolidating international peace and security, by promoting peaceful settlement of international disputes that has over the years been reinforced by taking practical steps in mediation and the provision of platforms to resolve tensions intra and inter states through diplomatic and peaceful means in a truly 
exemplary manner. (QNA)
