The Vietnamese embassy in Doha yesterday hosted a Vietnamese cultural event, ‘Da Nang, an Oriental Charm’, at Katara – the Cultural Village.
The show was held as part of a series of events to celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Vietnam.
“This performance by Charming Danang belongs to a series of events organised by the Vietnam embassy in Doha since early 2018 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Qatar. The performance also marks an important event on December 19, 2018, when Da Nang, a beautiful city in central Vietnam, is connected to Doha through direct flights by Qatar Airways,” Vietnamese ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao said in his opening remarks.
“On February 8, 1993, Vietnam and Qatar established diplomatic relations between the two countries. Accordingly, Vietnam-Qatar relations have made significant improvements in the last 25 years and there will be many more steps to come in future,” he noted.
The two countries have enjoyed the exchange of high-level delegations over the years and there is further prospect for mutual co-operation in different fields, according to the envoy.
He said Qatar Airways, together with a number of Qatari businesses, have made significant contributions to enhancing relations between Vietnam and Qatar, not only in the economic and commercial fields but also in terms of culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Qatar Airways currently operates direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. On December 19, it will launch direct flights to Da Nang, a city named on the top 10 list of cities worth living in for 2018 by Live and Invest Overseas, a Panamanian travel magazine.
“On this occasion, Charming Danang, one of the most outstanding performance groups in Da Nang, is going to tell you a story of our land with music and traditional dance. Enriched throughout the history of our land, cultural materials in this story include Ao dai Non la, a silk hand fan, bamboo instrument T’rung or even earthen vases.
The group will take you on a journey to Da Nang, Vietnam, a gateway to Unesco cultural heritage sites: Hue Citadel, Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary,” he said while  addressing the audience.
The envoy thanked Katara for its support and co-operation in holding such events.
He also expressed his sincere congratulations and good wishes for the further prosperity and progress of Qatar, its leadership and people on the occasion of Qatar National Day on December 18.
