The Indonesian ambassador to Qatar, Mohamed Bassiri, yesterday stressed that the Republic of Indonesia and Qatar enjoy a high degree of relationship at every level. He also noted that the two countries have developed strong partnerships in various fields.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) to mark Qatar National Day celebrations, Bassiri said that Qatar remains one of the largest investors in Indonesia with stakes in telecommunication, banking, and energy fields.
The ambassador also highlighted the visit of His Highness the Amir to Indonesia in 2017, following the State visit of President Joko Widodo to Qatar in September 2015. “During these visits, matters of bilateral concern and regional/international issues were discussed between the two leaders, including efforts to increase trade and investment, as well as co-operation in various fields.”
The ambassador said that Qatar was visible in the regional and international forums, noting that it was evident that the His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has a steady hand in navigating these turbulent times. “Qatari leaders have made it clear that they made the wellbeing of the people and residents of Qatar a priority. This in turn, brought together the people and residents of Qatar to rally behind the leaders.”
The ambassador also highlighted his opinion that it was of the utmost importance to celebrate National Days. “For the people and residents of Qatar, the National Day is the commemoration of Qatar’s unification in 1878. I am convinced that the celebration will further develop a sense of national identity and unity,” he said.
On the GCC crisis, the ambassador expressed his belief that Qatar has successfully evaded the problem caused by the blockade and boycott imposed by its closest neighbors. “Qatar prevailed by cultivating new and old connections, establishing new trade routes as well as developing supply channels.”
Ambassador Bassiri praised tremendous and rapid changes that Qatar is seeing in all fields. “The country is well on its way to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, preparing the infrastructures and all the supporting eco-systems.”
He also praised Qatar’s commitment to resolving conflicts peacefully. “Qatar deserves praise for its position. Indonesia echoes Qatar’s call for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution of disputes. I strongly believe that all problems can be solved through constructive dialogue between the parties,” he
said. (QNA)
