The next UN climate conference is to take place in Chile and is set for either December 2019 or January 2020, according to the South American nation's Environment Ministry.
Chilean President Sebastian Pinera welcomed the announcement on Twitter: ‘At #COP25 we will have the responsibility to decisively promote policies and advances to control climate change and global warming.’
The president of the COP24 conference in the southern Polish city of Katowice, Michal Kurtyka, extended his congratulations to Chile on Twitter.
Brazil retracted its bid to host the next UN climate conference, COP25, in November.
The country's newly elected President Jair Bolsonaro, who is to assume office in January, has threatened to follow the example of the United States and pull out of the Paris climate agreement.
The climate conference changes its location each year.
