Vodafone Qatar has deployed its 5G network in Katara Cultural Village in time for Qatar National Day Celebrations, it was announced on Thursday.

“Thousands of visitors to Katara will be able to enjoy trialling the superfast, seamless connectivity that expanded 5G coverage provides, enhancing what promises to be a spectacular and unforgettable experience,” it was explained.

The news builds on the previously announced rollout of 5G by Vodafone in key locations across the country including Al Waab, Abu Hamour, Al Aziziya, Al Mamoura, Al Rayyan Salwa Road and Um Salal Mohamed.

“The development highlights strong momentum and progress achieved by Vodafone Qatar in building out its 5G network, after switching it on in August this year,” the statement said.

“As strategic telecommunications partner for the celebrations at Katara Cultural Village, the business will also be playing a key role in proceedings by providing a wide range of activities for members of the public to enjoy.

“The centrepiece of these will be the “Vodafone Village” which blends the historical and modern. Much loved cultural activities such as henna demonstrations, a falcon and trainer, traditional games in the sand area, and classical cars on display all pay homage to the rich cultural elements of Qatari heritage.

“These will be intertwined with the high-tech, as visitors can partake in virtual reality gaming and an augmented reality table, both powered by Vodafone 5G, as well as a digital photo booth.

“Providing fun for the whole family whilst appealing to tech-enthusiasts and culture-lovers alike, the Vodafone Village will run from December 15 to 19.

Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim al-Thani, CEO of Vodafone Qatar said: “As a business we continue to make strong progress in building the digital infrastructure and ecosystem that will support Qatar’s continued growth and prosperity for years to come. Our investments in world-class infrastructure are designed to support the leadership’s vision for the country as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and we’re deeply committed to developing the network, solutions and services that enhance and improve all our lives. We invite members of the public to join us on Qatar National Day at Katara and proud to play our part in these celebrations.”

The celebrations at Katara are set to be one of the highlights that mark this year’s Qatar National Day with nine days of celebrations and more than 45 events and activities lined up until December 19, including fireworks, an opera performance, musical shows, parachuting, drone shows, cultural shows and other spectacular activities. These are set to take place from 4pm to 10pm at different venues at Katara beach, amphitheatre and Katara Corniche.

“Vodafone Qatar’s participation in the event reflects its commitment to facilitating community-wide connections. By bridging the gap between physical and digital, Vodafone aims to bring in solutions that can inspire consumers and demonstrate how the latest technologies can enhance their lives,” the statement added.
