National Traffic Safety Committee secretary-general Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah al-Malki yesterday received the Prince Michael Award for Traffic Safety at a ceremony in London.
“This award is a testimony to the high level of development in Qatar in terms of traffic safety and the reduction of traffic accidents,” according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior in Doha.
“In recent years, Qatar has been able to occupy a prestigious international position in the field of traffic safety and sustainable transportation, in traffic safety management, through scientific and non-conventional understanding of the requirements to reduce the traffic problems identified by the United Nations (UN) as a disaster threatening modern societies, develop applied field mechanisms that help and create a relationship with the international community and the UN to share successful
global experiences.
“The Foundation of Prince Michael is the oldest institution in this field in England and the world. It was established 30 years ago to improve global traffic safety by honouring achievers, as well as Prince Michael’s personal contributions to the activities of the UN and international organisations, resulting from the UN resolutions relating to the 2011-2022 Traffic Safety Plan and the UN goals for sustainable development 2015 -2030. It was endorsed by the heads of 150 countries, including His Highness the Amir.”
